New Class

the class' girls with OGLs.. which is like a lot of us
My new class (1S26 / Orion 7) isn't exactly enthusiastic and energetic as the original Cetus 4.
It's like we're all scattered and distant individuals though we may look like one joyful class with our OGLs in the above photos. All that glitters is not gold!
The amazing race and other games were just weird cos' most of us were unwilling to crawl out of our shells and a sense of unity was absent in the class.

A few of them wanted to have dinner, so I went.. and I didn't know that some from cetus4 also went for dinner. Ne'er tell me... >.< Neh mind, at least I got to know my classmates better! The 5 of us from 1s26 went to McDonald's for dinner. We sat there for what, 3 hours?? And talked.. One thing we agree to do is to make our class more united and break that barrier which is preventing us from freely talking to one another.
Macs that night was dominated by SRJCians, some were there to study and the rest of them were OGLs and councilors. Somehow the 2 groups got so excited they started yaking away and the OGLs even did cheers -.- The noise level was like worse than PL and Yuying (nearby sec schs) students combined! And I'm not exaggerating.

Went back to PL for CCA fair, and I must say that this year's isn't as exciting as previous years'.
The handbellers were better than when I last saw them perform =) got improvement la.
Except for the missing/uneven notes, no contrast in dynamics, unstable tempo... where was the conductor??
Can smile so nicely in the group photo with the alumni (gosh I'm old), why cannot smile when performing? By the way, I've uploaded more photos to yahoo groups, if any of y'all are reading.
Speaking of CCA fair, SRJC's CCA Bazaar was scary, a group of canoeing guys and a track and field guy were fighting for attention from Denise and I. They were debating before our very eyes, literally dragging us to their booths as they rashly promoted their CCAs. I wanted to run away but I couldn't, haha.

Mrs Wong was pleased to see half the sec 4s '07 come back to PL =) I miss PL, I miss handbells, I miss the teachers! Even the canteen auntie knows I've graduated, and I was wearing the handbell shirt. I'm so touched man. She asked me where I'm studying at =/.

Cetus 4 before we split into different classesTell me why I felt so lost when D Sen asked all of us to give a short speech about our ambition or what we want to do in the future...

Dear God, SRJC, or poly? Accountancy, or music? I've already narrowed my wants down to these already, I'm putting ACJC out of my list. Neh mind the 2 affiliation points if I EVER get 12 pts and below. Choices... I think this is actually when supply exceeds my demands. No opportunity cost whatsoever. I am so so so so so luan4. What exactly is in store for me? All I see now is a huge 'road block' that reads 'uncertainty'. I've already told myself to just trust God.. but ultimately, I'll have to come to a decision. My previous post depicts how I really feel now. And yesterday.

Ambition? What ambition?

Why is it that I'm striking off ACJC, you ask.
Isn't it all thanks to my present college? AND my OG?
I mean this group is unique and all...
And the tutors here are great... Sample lectures were enjoyable...

Ok, I'll talk about the present instead. I'm posted to 1S26. I am not ready to meet my new class yet. But I shall be reminded of Pastor Lawrence's sermon last year, picking the good out of the mixed bag. Basically it means to count your blessings la. And to adapt to difficult situations though I know this actually isn't difficult at all. Like Michael and Kenneth (Gan) said, just go and make friends man.

Sorry I don't feel like replying tags yet. haha.

My Future, I Surrender

My Jesus, I'm found in You
You're my Saviour
You chose me before the world
And You call my name

I will go with You through the valley
I will soar above every mountain
I will trust Your word deep within my heart
I will live for You

Cos' I know my future's in Your hands
All of my hopes and dreams and plans
You give me strength to live and faith to succeed
I believe in You because You believe in me

I'm giving You my heart and all that is within
I lay it all down for the sake of You my King
I'm giving You my dreams, I'm laying down my rights
I'm giving up my pride for the promise of new life

And I surrender all to You, all to You
And I surrender all to You, all to You

I'm singing You this song, I'm waiting at the cross
For all the world holds dear -- I count it all as loss
For the sake of knowing You, for the glory of Your name
To know the lasting joy, even sharing in Your pain

Worship team bonding, JC orientation

Friday, Jan 4, 3rd day of school

Clara didn't go to school cos' she went for some tooth extraction =(
Paulina came only to hand in the form, then she went back cos' she was sick =(

We started off by going to one of the classrooms so our lovely OG tutors (Ms Au and Mdm Pitra) could settle the administrative stuff like looking through our choices for our subject combinations.
There was SO much time, Deborah and I got sleepy, so we put our heads on the tables and slept -.-

We went for break as a group again, which is good cos' it's like something we do on our own accord.
Y'know, other JCs make it a must to have the group eat together and here we're given the freedom to look for our own sec school mates and makan. Wah, I'm so proud of my group haha even though we're not THAT close yet.
After that we went to the toilet as a group AGAIN. LOL. That's why I love cetus 4. I said earlier that we're not THAT close.. yet when 2 or 3 people visit the toilet, the whole group waits for them outside! This is something you don't see (or at least I haven't heard of it) in other groups! Which makes us stand out =)

Then... then we had the college dance.
The girls in my OG went to spread out, stand in one line and wait for a partner to appear. I find this funny. (come on people, laugh, laugh.)
My partner was Wayne =) After hearing some not very nice experiences from Alexia (her partner doesn't know how to hold her hand properly) and Hilary (from YJC, she said her partner had terribly sweaty palms), I think Wayne rocks. Haha cos' he's neither.
The steps are actually rather simple, but somehow we just can't seem to remember the whole thing. For example, ppl like me who gets distracted and keeps doing it wrongly and must depend on the partner especially for the holding hands part which is like, almost the whole dance. Oops.

We then got to the basketball court together with half the freshmen population. Cetus 4 picked a shady spot and was saved from the scorching heat of the sun (: Jerome joined us only after we've settled down as he was looking for Ben (Yeo Mei's partner) who had disappeared to the toilet for a long time after the dance. We suspected that he went into hiding -.-
The orientation committee (if there's one) must have run out of ideas because we played POLAR BEAR. It's similar to the one we play in church. Well anyway polar bear has no link whatsoever to the villagers and polar bears and the fortune teller. I mean huh, polar bear can go to a village meh? Woah! Now THAT's something!
We also played Murderer, the squeezing hand one. I was the murderer with Jack. Haha, we kill until very shiok. Never get caught. Just act innocent =)
The OGLs from cetus 1-4 taught these 4 groups some cheers. That was cool, especially the one with the girls' screaming xD What's not cool is that they put us in OGs, we become so bonded, and are later forced to split into different classes based on our subject combinations. Tsk.

School ended at 12:30pm!! Other JCs don't get this kind of privilege =P It's mainly cos' our orientation stretches till next Friday. So the fun doesn't just end in 3 days. Really, thank God for SRJC!

Saturday, 5th Jan, Worship Team Bonding

We started out by having some ice-breakers prepared by the sec 3s. I mean, sec 4s (oh man I'm old, i'm no longer a sec 4) Sarah and Abigail. The forfeits were lame but we did have a good laugh seeing everyone do their ka-chings xP

James led everyone in worship.. What's a worship team bonding supposed to be without worship? Haha. It was relatively refreshing, to worship God with just a guitar as accompaniment and not an entire band. It's like "coming back to the heart of worship".

Boon Yeow then shared some stuff with us from Genesis and reminded us of our mission as a worship team... also that we are first a Christian, then something else.

I will continue the update another time.. i'm so sleepy now, i'm dozing off in front of the monitor. will upload the bonding photos onto the youth ablaze worship multiply account.

JC orientation

Day 1 of the orientation was like ???
XY and I alighted from 113 outside the college and what greeted us was a colourful sight.
As expected.
A HUGE group of different sec school students waiting for their friends.

All the 'freshmen' (as they call us) gathered at the hall, which was a moment of awkwardness for one and all..
IT WAS SO QUIET, NOBODY WAS TALKING.
A sharp contrast to PLMGSS.
I was talking to Clara (PL) and Yeo Mei (cell grp) in my group in hushed tones, then I gave up.
Because apart from the OGLs at the front, nobody else talked. Everyone simply stared at the councilors and OGLs with blank looks.

According to the principal, SR's cut-off point (COP) was 19 for the PAE intake for both arts and science courses. Average was 16.5 omg.
Improvement leh. Those who had 20 points without CCA points got in through appeals.
Yeah, people actually appeal to SRJC. Surprise, surprise!
They're not THAT bad la.

Side track...
I really treasured 2007, as my last year in PL...
I sang the school anthem even though nobody else around me was singing. (last year leh)
This school has a special place in my heart. I love everything about it from the culture to the teachers to the food to the friendships forged.
By "culture" I mean the morning devotions and singspirations.. When I could have some personal time with God as Mr Tang used to tell us to have a minute of silence for individual prayers.
Here it's just "college at attention, the national anthem. ... the pledge. ... College at ease, please take a seat." No more "lets pray". It's a blessing to be in PL. Classes of 2008, do treasure every moment of your time spent in PL!

The principal and teachers in SR kept scaring us by emphasizing on the hectic life of a JC student and how breaks in between lectures and tutorials were not time for us to relax, but time for catching up of school work.
I don't think I wanna stay here... Hello poly.

Here in SR they start with the more boring stuff (subject talks) first, and push all the real fun to the end of next week, as the OGLs and OG tutors say.
I think my group, cetus 4, has the most interesting OGL in the house. His name is Jerome.
He talks damn loudly and was trying to tell us the muah chee story in the hall (other grps were listening as well) but had to stop and tell us at a later time during the break cos' there wasn't enough time.

My group is quite ok la.. got a number of jokers, aka the guys...
We played whacko and the blanket game yesterday where I was the last surviving member. Also played some longest line as suggested by D Sen. Unique name, yeah. Got video of them doing forfeit =D
We're quite united, today we went to the toilet as a GROUP. HAHAH.

There was an attire check yesterday.. I wore my altered pinafore which is like at the knee, in PL sure get caught for proportion. My hair's over the first pinafore line but don't need to plait =P
I passed the attire check! In PL sure fail.
Needless to say, many guys got issued with warning letters for their hair.
lol damn cool.

There's college/mass dance tomorrow, and the instruction given was to wear PE attire.
But PL's PE attire isn't exactly pleasing to the eye, you know.
Some SR PL lites were then debating over what to wear -- House T-shirt, PL-lite shirt.

valerie says:
heyy
valerie says:
wear PE shirt
joyce house shirt or PE shirt?? says:
haha why leh
valerie says:
cause can air armpits
joyce house shirt or PE shirt?? says:
-___-

then we continued to talk

valerie says:
hey babe
valerie says:
i gtg now
valerie says:
see ya
valerie says:
byyyyyyyyeeeee
valerie says:
tell me ur air armpit experience tmr
valerie says:
BYE!

WTH Val -.- if that's the case then maybe I shouldn't wear PE shirt cos'... think of the smell man.
Solution: empty my deodorant. Wait actually not that bad la.

I chose guzheng as my CCA leh. Couldn't decide between band or choir or guzheng.
Performing Arts is definitely for me! I like it.

With no pure science and add maths background, I can only take H1 maths and one H2 science.
H2 lit is crazy.. offered only to the arts stream. I thought of going over to arts but decided to remain in the science stream. Prerequisites for H2 lit? Pass in pure lit or B4 in elec lit!!! I had a 5. Anyway I won't want to study SIX lit texts. A Macbeth is enough to kill.
I barely met the requirements for H2 geog (C6) and bio (B4) and chem (B4).
So my first subject combi choice is H2 Econs, Geog, Bio, H1 Maths.
2nd choice is the same as the first except that bio is changed to chem.
3rd choice is the same as the first except that geog is changed to history.
Yes, history, even though we have no history background in PL. No choice la, I can't qualify for other combinations!

Ok. Worship team has 4 new singers now.
I dunno how I'm feeling about it.
Hmmmm.....

last day of 2007

New cure for coughing individuals! Drink coke. Serious!

Most of you will know that I've been coughing badly ever since I came back from Indonesia.
No, I didn't go to the doctor cos' I don't want my parents to spend so much money on me.
I keep going out, so each time I do that I'll need to spend money.
Taking money like this makes me feel guilty.
So I just told them that the doc would give the same kind of medicine which we still have at home. Those black coloured liquid which causes drowsiness.
But I wasn't consistent in taking the med.. and the cough persisted for almost a month.
On Saturday night, however, I drank a HUGE cup of coke at the cinema.
And ta-da, I'm healed! hahaha... God heals in strange ways.

I slept like a log on Saturday night. Or rather, Sunday morning.
You'll never guess what I dreamed of.
Well, part of that dream came true. It was freaky.
I dreamed that I had menses and I stained both the front and back of my shorts.
Then when I woke up and went to relieve myself in the morning, I saw blood -___-

Yesterday afternoon was like hell for me.

I went to church in the morning, and was fine.
I went for lunch with my family plus grandparents, and was fine.
I went to Sheng Siong with them, pushed the trolley, was damn sian, and was (still) fine.

I took a nap upon stepping into the house... dunno why I was that tired.
Then I woke up quite suddenly with a strong urge to go and shit.
this post is going to be gross. you've been warned.

So I went to the toilet and tried to shit. Ok, I did shit.
I had constipation la.
There was an excruciating pain in my stomach.. and nothing I did could ease that pain.
I tried sitting in different positions, leaning on the wall to my right, leaning back, grabbing my dad's trousers which was hanging on the wall (and dropped afterwards), shifted my legs here and there but to no avail.
I tried praying, but all I could say was "Lord, help me..." in desperation.
It was so terrible, I couldn't even say a proper prayer.
The song we sang for ministry in church that morning was on repeat mode in my head though.
"Through it all, I know my God is in control"
and I held on to that though it seemed I was going to die just by sitting on the toilet bowl
The pain seared for a long time.. was just... tormenting.
which left me drenched in perspiration.
I clutched my stomach the whole time. It was so painful, I was close to tears.
Ah I dunno how else to describe.

Then the moment I feared arrived. I wanted to puke.
I vomited my lunch out.. it felt horrible, could see the chicken rice there...
Maybe that's how God helped me, because after puking, I felt a lot better.
All the energy was drained out though. I was dead beat after the battle with my digestive system in the toilet.
This sucks especially when you're having your 'time of the month'.
As if the cramps help at all...

After what felt like hell in the toilet, I managed to drag myself to my bag to get my phone. haha.
It was THAT bad.
Replied msges... there was one from a blur Timothy (happy birthday, boy!) that read
"Ahh wait. Im confused. I was msging my cousin ur msgs and msging u my cousin's. Both ur numbers so similar." Lol, so cute, I couldn't resist putting this up here.

I didn't take my dinner that night, for fear of vomiting.
I only ate some sweets and some oreo cookies later in the night.
Feeling better now, that's why I'm online blogging and conferencing with Jia Yan and Kenneth on the phone.

Watcnight service, watchnight service!

Sunday, December 30, 2007

As 2007 comes to an end, i will take only fond memories with me, leaving unpleasant ones behind.
I will release regrets and guilt I still cling on to.

Thank You Lord for seeing me through the year, for it has been a year of ups and downs.
The common tests, exams, SYF, Japan trip, handbell performances, prelims, O levels, church events, mission trip ... ... ...
God saw me "through the seasons".
Glad to say that my faith has been strengthened.

The road ahead is narrow
The way is sometimes steep
And only the committed claim the prize

But standing at the finish
With arms outstretched to greet us
Is the One who has endured the race
And paid the final prize

Dare to run
With our eyes fixed on Jesus
Following the footsteps
of the One who's gone before us

Dare to run
In the power of the spirit
Born to be victors
in the race already won

Dare to run

With that, I'd say I'm ready for 2008

Saturday, December 29, 2007

ok, i know my testimony's overdue.
i'm still working on it. just taking a break by blogging.

at first i thought that i wouldn't be able to produce one.
but how can one go on a mission trip saying they don't have a testimony? it's ridiculous.
haha.
so yea i dragged myself and started a new word document.
and everything just flowed quite nicely.
it's 3 pages and counting.
i dunno how to reduce it to 1 page later.
i'm taking SO freaking long to complete ONE testimony. lol.
that's funny.. to think that i actually thought i would only write half a page.
kinda underestimating myself... or rather, God's blessings.

it's like writing an essay!!!

uncle Dong's chasing for the CP data, but Beatrice has yet to send out the template..
how to key in?
i just sent Bea and Stacia the scribing journal which lacked info and yet was overloaded with details. contradicting huh. it was 10 pages long la -.-
now there's the testimony which i'm rushing to complete...
and next there's the CP data, still awaiting the template! roar.

school's starting next week leh. so fast.
now i'm not sure i'm looking forward to it. SRJC. hmm.

went to clarke quay and bugis with yi jia on monday. spend money spend money $_$
bought clothes lor. and caught up with her.. never see her for awhile.
then went to fiona's party at her house. turnout wasn't that fantastic but we enjoyed ourselves la, with the movies and food and countdown.
we created a din there. no other household seemed to be counting down to christmas!
and of course, the sms lines were jammed.

tuesday.. i stayed home to pack my room (i tried, really!)
and watch tv :) i love mediacorp.
andrew asked if i wanted to go out but i was a good kid, i stayed at home. haha.
conferenced with 4 other people until about 4.45am.

wednesday... went to church to help out for the notice board.
there was a power failure halfway and shoutss of "aiya wo de work mei you save leh!" were heard around the office. super funny.
some of us slected and printed out all the pictures and captions. yeong worked on the summary.
time did not permit us to work on the notice board itself, we only got most of the materials for the board ready.
church office is a cool place.

thursday was clique outing. er, slightly more than half the clique.
we went to vivo. i tell you ah,
EVERYWHERE ALSO SALE.
i couldn't resist the temptation and bought a top which was on offer.
like it a lot, you see. even had to borrow money from lai theng.
then we watched I am Legend without popcorn =(
brilliant show, i almost grabbed LT when those zombies suddenly jump out. i'd say it should be rated for gore instead of violence! very sad when the doggie died.

friday.. spent the whole day packing my room. looks a lot neater now.
i pasted the sec 1 to sec 4 class photos and peer lite photos on my bed frame.
so every time i walk in, it's like an influx of PL lites staring back at me. haha.
couldn't go out with char seow and fiona cos' i've been going out a lot. no money sia.
anyway they watched I am Legend. if i went with them, they'd have to watch another movie.

later on, going to lunch at home, go to macs to meet the sec 2s and 4s from the mission team '07 and eat SHAKER FRIES =P, go to church to do the board, go for youth service, go to marina south for steamboat with the SYF team =D, then midnight movie with ling ying and ethel.
Lord please hold back the cumulonimbus clouds!
whoo!
...
...no whoos to the spending money part.

CCLI song #18682

I went to Malacca with my family a few days ago.
Omg la, I LOVE the food!! Good food, good shopping, ... ...
What's more, it's safer than JB where crime rates are high.
My parents bought me 2 pairs of jeans (total RM 89.90), a bag (42), a pair of flats (29.90), pair of slippers (25.90 minus 20%), belt (15), skirt (109 minus 10%), shorts (79 minus 50%).
Haha.
I heard from the cell that they didn't go for midnight movie cos' "don't have Joyce's father to send (them) home" -___-
Next year la next year. We can also go on the 1st Jan after watchnight service =)

Conferencing is fun! *winks at newly-formed midnight gang*

I got to know Kara's cell a lot better. I. Think..
After giving out the presents on her behalf. Though I still can't remember most of their names.
Jia Yan has chicken pox. Lai Theng just recovered. Fiona has stomach flu and is on the road to recovery. My mum has fever. I'm still having a bad cough.
Wah, what is this?! Attack of the viruses or what...

Love Actually rocked. The drama team was really good, their acting can get them a place in MediaCorp la. hahah.
Food was good too. Ok I dunno what else to blog about... XY i updated =)

Old times

God has blessed little Singapore
1) by crowning Hady Mirza as the Asian Idol
2) with 43 gold medals (if i'm not wrong) at the recent 24th SEA games

(1) really caught me by surprise. When I saw it on the cover of The Straits Times, I was like "WHAT?! Hady????" It was totally unexpected, considering what I read another day about Sg Idol judge Ken Lim saying there's not enough support coming from Singapore. But I am nevertheless thrilled and proud to say that Singapore may be small, but she does have very talented citizens =)

43 golds may seem like nothing compared to the mighty Thailand which won i-don't-know-how-many golds, but it's certainly SOMETHING especially since we have a much smaller population and land area as compared to the other south-east Asian nations. Haha. (by the way, KENDRICK LEE ROCKS) The government is spending a lot on developing sporting youth talents. I see a bright future ahead of Singapore =) Man, I AM proud to be a Singaporean!

I came across my sec 2 cell's blog.
At first I thought, we even had a blog in the first place? Wow!
Well that's how pathetic it is. We were called iteens. Something which I don't even remember until I read somewhere inside the one blog posts.
It was last posted by Ivan Ong, one of our cell leaders then.
This is what it contained

[Wednesday, November 16, 2005 . thoughts]

Hey!

Honesty when i read your posts and comments i really felt like crying, it may sound silly but i really love you guys(and gals!)... all of you! When i first started i was going through a reall rough patch due to a broken relationship and i was really considering if i should continue serving in teenz. During those early times, i really felt under certain & sometimes i would be really demoralized by the times when during cell discussion nothing would be said. Times like that really made me consider quitting and left me de-moralized but everytime i wanted to quit, God always made something good happen in cell and would remind me about all of you & that he always come through and that things would be even better then i could imagine... and look we are now! So different from how we started!

I'm really thankfully for each one of you.. you've all brightened my life up alot!(and im sure wan hui & joanne would agree.. haha) I think our cell has really changed alot since we've first started & now everyweek i look forward to seeing you guys at service! :)

I've really enjoyed the bondings & great times that we had.. (like waiting in the sun for hours to see hillsongs at FOP?)haha.. continue to grow in the lord & never lose sight of him okie? Draw nearer to him and be his good friend! :) I belive that you guys can do great things for God! Dont be afraid to dream BIG! During our last worship in the chapel i felt God saying that you(your generation of young people) are gonna do great works. You are going into the mission fields & do things unseen & unheard of before... and shake the world ...
I believe with all my heart that you guys will be able to do that, and do great miracles, heal the sick, raise the dead etc.. do things & go to places that we(my generation) have never been before... Amen! So never lose sight of God but instead always run to him when you are in trouble or tempted... lastly...

1 Timothy 4:12
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.

Continue to shine for God!

Iv@n

And there Ivan said, "You are going into the mission fields & do things unseen & unheard of before... and shake the world ..." which some of us just did this December.
Sigh... I miss those times! I wanna cry already la...
I've kinda forgotten how it was like back then when we were in P6, sec 1 and sec 2.
I'm getting old! If that's the case, cell leaders are growing oldER! lol..
Those were the days...

Rain Camp

Dear Lord, I am ever so thankful... for everything that happened since December 1st.. You showed me so much within a short span of 11 days, You helped me to control my feelings a lot better, and my faith has also been strengthened by heaps. Thank You Daddy for loving me so much. Thank You for sending so many nice people who shower me with words of encouragement. Thank You for helping me to look at the bright side of things... The list goes on and on, Lord. Really, I can never thank You enough.

Now, where, and how to start?

I think I'll just put up the Microsoft Word document on the scribing from the Aceh trip up here for download when I'm done with it. It's freaking long.

RAIN camp saw a strength of about 250 campers from kids as young as 11 years old, all the way to, hmm, 30 plus I suppose. As expected, Pastor Glenn was superb.. His preaching made an impact on many of us. He made the Word of God seem fun to read, adding in many bits of funny things for us to go -_-|| over or laugh our hair out ('laugh our heads off' is too common).

What really got me to my senses was how much Christ suffered and went through for a sinner like me. Like us. I've been hearing so much of "Jesus died for you" until I kinda took it for granted. *rush of guilt* But after watching that scene from the Passion of the Christ which was Mel Gibson's interpretation of how Christ was treated before and during crucifixion, I was struck dumb and reminded that this was how the King of kings willingly gave up His life for us. He did not just die like this, he was tortured, so gruesomely... all out of love.

A church camp is never complete without salvations..........
FIONA TAN do I see your hand up? Lol seriously, no regrets getting Fiona and Xi Ying to go for camp! I think God was a lot more real to them. Imagine my joy when Fio said the bible is a cool book, and when XY said she received the gift of tongues! =D =D

It suddenly dawned upon me that the psalm which I thought of on the first day of camp,“For you created my innermost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well“. Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)
was linked to Pastor Glenn's message that very day. He had talked about how there are SO many galaxies in this universe, and how small pluto is.
Even so, "He determines the number of the stars; and calls them each by name." Psalm 147:4 (NIV), something Quek was telling me on the istimewa team's first night at Layeun (He, Guo Sheng and I were at the seaside staring at the starry sky then). This was mentioned by Pst Glenn.
Also, I was just pondering over how the bible says, "Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!" in Luke 12:24... which was later (also) mentioned by the pastor.
Imagine, us, so many of us humans, so much smaller and seemingly, more insignificant than pluto... yet God crafts each and everyone of us so carefully when the nucleus of the ovum and sperm fuses together. Haha, the study of biology and geography have made me appreciate God's works a lot more.
I don't think the entry of these verses into my tiny head was anything like a coincidence. More like God telling me "hey, this is how much I treasure you..."

We need the Lord, but these days there are too many substitutes out there eh?
"Why spend money on what is not bread,

and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and your soul will delight in the richest of fare."
Isaiah 55:2

Likewise... the pleasures of the world are only temporary! It's eternal life after death that really counts. Lol.

Night games on the first day was omg. Haha.
I didn't play the ice-cream game whereby everyone in the group had to lie down and feed each other ice-cream. Cos' I was coughing. I'm STILL coughing actually.
The caterpillar game got my butt scratched by the grass... Mind you, we did it on the muddy field. The 'best' thing was I was wearing FBTs. The one uncle Dong describes as "banana shorts". So you get the picture. I hope I didn't expose too much.
The cobweb game is the one we almost always play at camps. To get every group member across without touching any of the strings. Each hole can only be used once. But we didn't complete it la.. They were carrying me through it and Evan shouted "support her butt!". -.-
Ok there were a lot of stations... and I don't want to describe everything.

Hehe. I slept like a log that night. Stacia told me she slept well.. We're trained already la, after Aceh, sleeping there was like whooooo, shiok.

For session 2 worship on the first day, I thought my cough would kill me and prevent me from singing. But it didn't. I even felt better la haha.

Session 3 worship was another story. During worship practice, I just stopped suddenly cos' all the phlegm was clogging up inside, and my --urgh-- singing would affect the rest of the team.
So yeah I went to sit down on the chair and watch the rest. This time it was so bad I thought, later don't need to sing already la, should have stayed with my camp group instead of leaving early for prac.
During the break I kope-d Fisherman's Friend from Melody, water chestnut from Abigail, lemon barely from Melody again, and then Pearlyn passed me a strepsil from Quek.
[was also during the break that I was described as Quek's "trump card"... which made me think of how the leaders in the worship team (and also out of the team la) never fail to keep on encouraging me]
It was like, prayers were answered! With the help of God and these people's lozenges and "magic drinks", I was alright during the worship itself =D It's a miracle, I was like transformed from a tenor to an alto within an hour! HAHA. Well yea... that shows how good my Daddy is.

I left halfway for my uncle's wedding dinner. He's someone I'm so NOT close to. I think I'm neither close to my aunts nor uncles from my mum's side.
Anyway the dinner was held at some restaurant near the campsite. After the dinner I called Wan Hui and she said they were still at church, and will only leave in 20 to 30 minutes. My dad then drove me all the way back. Along the way, I was actually quite worried that he can't drive back there on time.. But there was a still small voice which told me to trust God and be calm. True enough, the roads were smoother than usual, the traffic lights were mostly green (lol). Yeah then when I reached, everyone was getting up the buses, preparing to leave. Haha, this shows how God is faithful and just that little faith which I clung on to at that time can be magnified. So now I feel that I can trust Him even more.

On Monday, it poured when I was having lunch with Jace, XY and Fio. We wanted to go home. It was a bit difficult for XY and I cos' we had to cross the road. I thought, never mind la, just cross and get wet. However when we walked to the bus stop, ready to cross the road, the rain seemed to stop! It became a VERY slight drizzle so we happily walked across the road. It was only after that that it started to pour again. Another example of how God cares so much for me (us), even the slightest thing like letting us cross the road without getting too wet.

Lord, I'm truly amazed by You!

mission trip

The YPM mission troopers are back!
SO much has happened... so many events which I as the scribe failed to record omg. But still a lot la. Layeun Village is a beautiful [but (land) polluted] place.

This is weird, but my dad is having prata now with Uncle Dong, Freddy, Augustina and the unknown guy who shared a cab with Sheila (Tan) Beatrice and I.
I didn't want to go though I'd very much like to have prata too.
Do what there la, sit, stone and listen to them talk? How awkward.

Anyway I will not post about the mission trip today.
All I can say is, OUR GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD!!!!!!!! Amen? =)
Really loved the trip.

Cambridge Dinner and Preparations

I feel as if I haven't posted a proper blog entry since forever.
I've sorta lost touch with blogging.... NOT!! That will not happen! I will not allow that! Ahahaha.. Well for this post, we'll let the pictures do the talking, shall we? With some captions, of course.

Mission trip is only 2 days away. That's really fast!
Time flies. First we had prom shopping........... Hi Xi Ying! It was both fun and headache for the Bishan Gang as we walked around for days, for hours, trying on dress after dress, heel after heel (for me la).Oh, how we would moan and groan about not having enough time to shop. Recall, all that last minute shopping on prom day itself! Absolutely hilarious, if you ask me. All that havoc and panic.. and finally getting everything done. Dress, accessories, heels, makeup, hair, clutch,.Our only problem was S + 1 = $. Cash flow. Well, duh, after making a dent in our parents' as well as our own pockets. Here's my prom expenses.

Prom ticket (actually there was no ticket) -- $75
Transport to and from Swissotel (estimated) -- $5.50
Nail polish (Missha) -- $2.90
Dress (Far East Plaza, Urban Mix) -- $66
Shawl (Far East Plaza, Urban Mix) -- $17
Heels (U.R.S. inc, from Merto) -- $29
Clutch (BHG Bugis) -- $21.50
Hair and makeup -- $40
Total: $256.90

Then we had it. The Cambridge Dinner, otherwise known as prom for our school.
I won't ever forget the dilemma I was put in.. I almost could not go for this dinner.
Thus I'm forever grateful to my Daddy in heaven who postponed the Mission Trip and made it possible for me to make my presence at Swissotel.
I've uploaded most of the photos to Friendster. But no matter, I shall put them here again.
Here we have Chelsie, unique name yea, who stays at Kovan Melody with Fiona.
Wen Yi and Pearlyn
Apart from the worm found in Wen Yi's plate of vegetables, the food was good. I liked everything from the first course (cold dish) to the dessert. Easily satisfied? Nah. That's partly because I didn't have my breakfast and lunch. We shared the table with some sec 5s whom I would say, were quite friendly. Anyway here's the clique without Wen Qin... who paid $75 and didn't turn up. I koped this from LT's blog.
Music Class of 2007 in the next 2 photos. We're like the most bonded class in the entire school.
It was a night to remember, as camera flashes were seen throughout the night. The constant chattering of girls... a distinct trait of an average PL-lite. TALK. haha I wonder why Ms Gan and Mr Tang weren't there.

I think it's a tradition, to sing a school theme song at school events. It was heartwarming to see everyone singing with pride, arms around one another. The last major school event for us all. When will we sing songs like this together again? Singing is part of PL's culture, since we have singspiration every morning...
However. The singing of the school anthem was ??!?!?!?! Why is this so? This question remains unanswered. Hey Lai Theng I think I look better here than in your blog leh. Omg Ethel Sim! Same shawl! At the background you see people taking class photos. And guess what, they played the MARCH as background music. That definitely got everyone laughing and saying "what the hell", also giving the -_-" face. It was rather cute though. The march is heard every morning as a signal for us to assemble at the assembly area.. Sitting next to 4C2 in for morning assemblies, is 4C1. Cheryl is one of them. Note the people making funny poses behind her. Haha no offence okay.Class photo (Pei . Neither Mrs Ong nor Mrs Chong is inside. They didn't go for the Cambridge Dinner =( While every other class had their form teachers in their class photos, ours had neither form teacher nor co-tutor. That's just, sad. But Miss Kok, my favourite maths teacher, put herself into our class photo so at least we won't look as though we're teacher-less. She's so darn nice. I love Miss Kok! In the photo, we have our very own Tania Soh (Filch) who won the title of MISS CHARISMATIC!!!!!!! Tania we're so proud of you =)
Sharon... Together we AIM to get into ACJC. But whether we do get in or not, that's another thing altogether.
This is Sheila, class position 1/29. I wonder why her partner turns out to be so mental?
(her partner = me)The one who neighs... my neighbour, the pretty horse.
Pearlyn and Ling JiaOk I'm getting tired of loading photos. So lets just jump to the end. The night ended with more photo-taking and Mr Lim chasing everyone out of the freaking ballroom.
Walked the loooooong way to the MRT station (City Hall if I'm not wrong), our feet aching from the killer heels, and continued to cam-whore in the train =DThat night the 3 of us slept in Jia Yan's room. Xi Ying slept first, then Kenneth called Jia Yan and she put him on loudspeaker and we talked until 4 plus, then I fell asleep halfway and Jia and K continued to talk until who-knows-what-time. Power sia.

The next day, which was yesterday, we had mission trip preparations.
It's the 2nd round of prep for the week. I missed the 1st round because of prom haha.
I'm tired so I'll just cut what I want to say and post the photos. I'll edit the post to add in more stuff tomorrow. If there's time.
The 2 Joshuas... one working, one slacking!
Jacelyn ar! You ok or not?!

one day to prom

This is freaking me out...

This year alone, 2 o level students met with accidents.
The holy innocents' guy was Iris' ex-classmate.
The victoria guy was Andrew's friend.

oh. my. gosh.

And just yesterday, one of the five missing (now found) dragon boaters in Cambodia, Stephen, was Priscilla's cousin.

I used the right tense, right?

Pris I know this is very hard for you to take, at least now we know your cousin is safe in God's hands.. we're all very proud of him, and the others, for representing Singapore... it was most unfortunate that something like this has to happen. I really hope your family and your relatives will not be too affected by it.. we're all deeply saddened by the news, we as a nation =(

some quizzes/surveys

OK. Here's what I put for PAE, in order of choices.

2 - 22A ANGLO-CHINESE JUNIOR COLLEGE (ARTS) (ANGLO-CHINESE JUNIOR COLLEGE)8 - 34A YISHUN JUNIOR COLLEGE (ARTS) (YISHUN JUNIOR COLLEGE)
3 - 31S TAMPINES JUNIOR COLLEGE (SCIENCE) (TAMPINES JUNIOR COLLEGE)9 - 43C MILLENNIA INSTITUTE (COMMERCE) (MILLENNIA INSTITUTE)

Lol I think it's just cos' PL's affiliated and I like the culture there and their performing arts pwn other JCs. YJ doesn't seem too bad, they got an academic value-added (gold) for the A level results, and they have flexible subject combinations. They offer music too =D

after O's

2441/0236's life ends here.

I'm back!

Thank You Lord for seeing us through O's....

And now can someone explain why I'm not feeling glad? It's like, over.
One whole month of intensive studying and headaches, and now there's nothing.
I'm at a loss. 3/4 of me wants to go back to study. What's the point of studying now????
=(
Bishan library gang / OLM people were of a great support during that period.
Dear God, I pray that you will help the remaining treblers to handle the notes well....

Can someone explain, again, why I dread handbell practice tomorrow?
I used to love the practices. (I still love the bells) It's totally different now.
Is it because 1) I got 24 freaking points for CCA and am not happy with an A2
or 2) Only 3 out of 5 in my section will be playing?
Charlene is going to Sarawak I think, and apparently Ling Ying has dental appointment. (... ...)
It's no easy feat. I don't know how the $!#*!$%)@$ are we going to manage everything.
I've lost the 'feel' of the SYF pieces. Mood and feeling are factors which make up a good performance, and now that I lack these, I think I'll only make things worse for everyone.
Gosh I feel terrible.

God will make a way I guess.

one more paper

Went to Vivo with Xi Ying yesterday,
went there again today with XY, Fio and Hil.

We had a Merlionster from Ben & Jerry's today.
I was reminded of last year...
I've had B&J's with a number of people now, but none can replace them I guess.

Monday, October 29, 2007

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3: 12-14

Because of this, I know I should not let my (sucky) performance in the other papers affect my upcoming exams -- maths paper 2, chinese paper 1 and 2, poa paper 2, science bio paper ??, ss, science paper 1, elec lit, geog paper 1, music listening paper, poa paper 1 -- for after everything I know I can say without regret,

"I have done my best."

Help me to run this last lap, give me strength Lord.. I commit all my papers into your hands... I will do whatever I can, and Father I know You'll take over from there..

when i was in sec 1, i would look at the sec 4s and think, woah, they have no life. whole day study.
when i was in sec 2, i said... still got time. thank God i'm not in sec 4.
when i was in sec 3, i told myself.. there is still time... but you'll suffer like them next year.
now that i'm in sec 4, ............... it's like omg, what did i do for the past three-and-a-half years? rejoice and celebrate youthfulness? play my secondary school life away? o's are here. i'm almost halfway through it. it's so freaking fast, don't even have time to eat and sleep. ok i'm exaggerating.

years later, when i look back at my old entries (i hope blogger wont close down), i know i'll laugh and say, "those were the days...".
random random random stuff...

Almost

I was on the verge of erupting... the oceanic and continental plate collided and there were earthquakes at the subduction zone...

I came online, and the first thing I see is an MSN conversation window started by Nd Quek. Someone I least expect to talk to (dunno why) unless it's about worship. I copied the first part of the convo.

de-stressing

STRESS

stress does not exist.
only got peace, lah.

the time is drawing nearer...

So, mission trip, or prom?

I am about to make the decision.....

People say, your secondary school prom is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. You are only a secondary four student once. You can always go for the mission trip again next year.
I say, I have already missed this year's church camp for the Japan trip. What if, next year this time, another event like this crops up and clashes again? Am I going to keep saying 'yes' to school, 'no' to church, though both are optional?
Pastor Jenny and the youth leaders say, put God first. Give priority to Jesus. Just as He always gives priority to us, and we are never at the back of His mind.
God says... (well actually I haven't got a clue.)
My parents tell me, "up to you", something which (I'm sure) others would want their parents to say to them.

I choose..................................................

bishan library

oh
my
gosh

Seriously, the cat high sec 4s at bishan library are just %!#*@&$(*%U#%!!!!
According to Jia Yan who was there early at nine plus before the library opened, they were there already, waiting for the doors to open.
And they ran for the tables. Literally. All the way to the top floor to reserve all the tables.
They stay there from 10am to 9pm, the library's opening hours.
How do we know? We were there from 10 to 9 too.
(fine, not me... i had tuition in the morning. the rest of the OLM bishan gang came early. we went yesterday too, but left early.)
WAH BEST. BEST. Plus it's half of AARON's class. Yes, BFC's Aaron.
I feel like murdering him this Saturday. But his birthday coming so must resist.
Okay I am quite lazy to blog in more detail about our horrendous studying experience and I shouldn't be blogging in the first place... because the O LEVELS HAVE ALREADY STARTED. SHOULD BE MUGGING INSTEAD.

Study leave is good. We don't have to wake up so early.

I found this here, very funny and good description of the morning scene outside bishan library.
Today acompanied Rachel to study. Went to Bishan library. Saw the Catholic High Sch nerds. They so KIASU loh. 10am library open, they arrived early just to stand in front of the door. You know why?
Besides chopping seats, they gotta make their 100m sprint! Wa,once the door is opened, they LITERALLY SPRINTED up to the top floor to chop seats. I was caught surprised by their kiasu-ness sial. I've not seen any nerds so enthu about studying for O levels sial. Knn. Catholic High nerds.

staying up but not for long

Random thoughts...

1) From now until the end of O's, I will be known as 2441/0236 =)
2) When I tag at tagboards, it's ALWAYS "joyce" with a small "j". Always. Except for now when I'm using my index number.

I quote from Timothy...

everyone else is studying so that it will get them good results.
it's something they must do, or else they'll fail. right?
not you.
you study because its the process of getting your good results.

here's a scenario:
you, bought by Jesus' blood, blessed tremendously cos' of your Daddy.
the world, still lost and without the blessings you have.
to get the great results, you need to the bus ticket.
Jesus already bought it for you, even overpaying for it.
the world, needs to buy the ticket through crazy studying.
so since you already have the ticket, you study because you know you're already on the bus to great results.
You already have the Ticket. The World doesn't.
relax and know that you're on the bus to victory. :)

So yes, hang in there, cos' we have Jesus! =)

end of 10 years

That's it.

Gone. 10 years of education at PLMGS.

That's the end of our daily morning assembly with devotion and singspiration, announcements and silent reading. And of course the times when we had to stand and sit so many times.
I don't have to visit the General Office every morning to write my name in that small book anymore, because I don't have an EZ-link card and am thus unable to clock in via the electronic system thingy. Mdm Toh and Ms Orin (receptionists) can still see me everyday as long as they don't take down the school mission and vision thing in the office, cos' got my face there (handbell syf team treblers 07)
Daily routine? Not anymore.

We got our report books on Thursday. My music marks were entered wrongly, thanks to Mr Ng. Mrs Ong very kindly stayed back to make amendments to it, got Mrs Lee to acknowledge it, and returned it to me at 5 plus. My percentage and class position went up by one mark/notch. Had OLM bonding again at Compass Point.

Is the school biased? Many would say yes.
I'm not making my stand here because this is the Internet, the WWW.. once a teacher finds out and reports it, I'll risk having my testimonial forfeited.
Example 1: only photographs of the GwH music groups this year were featured in the General Office this year, among many others such as the debate team and..?
Example 2: Founder's Day service. The school announced that the sec 4E/5N had the privilege of sitting in the concert hall for the service (for obvious reasons). On the day itself, they told the supposedly stupider classes that they were to sit at the canteen to make way for guests. The affected classes voiced their displeasure, only to be turned away flatly. [they had the sense to shift everyone back to the concert hall in the end. though they didn't see the tears shed when we were chased down to the canteen/basement. don't the teachers know how much this service will means to graduating students?]
I think I'm going to sit on the fence.

O level Music Practical

OLM bonding makes me happy!
What is this now la... a daily affair??

A lot of people have been asking me how was my practical. So my reply will be "go and read my blog"

Basically they gave us a FANTASTICALLY FANTASTIC piano to practice at the reporting room...
Tone touch pedal sound and everything was perfect, like the best upright piano one could ever touch.
BUT in the exam room... omg. We get a sucky piano. The keys on the higher octaves were so soft and loud and nice and everything, a sharp contrast to the lower keys.
The pedals? Hard to press =/

Oh and guess what?

I keep getting flashbacks of the wonderful mistakes I made during the exam.
For example...

I had to play 9 consecutive THICK chords at ff (super loud) but I banged on the first 6 chords wrongly for my Clementi piece.
Best right?
Still have more. But I want to stop thinking about it!

I was supposed to play at 1655 HOWEVER, the examiners dragged everything and I ended up playing at around 1730! Damn tiring ok! Plus I went into the same room 3 times in total... Twice before my own (supposedly) arranged time. But by the time it came to my turn, I sat outside the room feeling so physically and mentally exhausted, I didn't even feel nervous.

What's the use? Still made mistakes like nobody's business.
Anyway... I think all the PL girls who took the exam yesterday didn't play well la. Right?
Today's better. Charmaine Hilary and Grace.

THANK YOU CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE *AHEM* PIANO. THANKS A LOT MAN.

BibleGateway.com's verse of the day, a reminder of how we should stand up for Christ =)
Matthew :11-12
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Putting everything in a nutshell now.

Friday (28/9) morning was spent in the home economics room in school.. Thank God I did not dream of walnuts or brownies that night. Can die ok. Just baking them can make one's tummy full. Don't ask how.

Saturday (29/9) was the day we all looked forward to. THE fair. That's the first time I saw PL so packed with people. My non-school friends all came at the same time. Haha and some half of BFC came which was quite a surprise =)
I spent the day with friends in and out of PL, working with different classmates, helping when it wasn't my shift (peak period), shouting like a mad woman ("brownie with ice-cream $2!!!"), serving customers, panicking when we ran out of cups and spoons, ......
Had a roaring good time with BFC girls for dinner. hahah

Sunday (30/9) chinese and maths tuition. study with some girls

Today (1/9) Mrs Lee declared it a holiday BUT we the mighty OLM girls went down to CHS to test their piano... all I can say is this ----> I LOVE PL.
